The good news is the 1st quarter of the VU204 is almost up and he said I should expect (but no promises) to see some software upgrades (ie: unblocked features) for this model soon if VZW follows their usual pattern. Motorola designed the software to detect bad power feeds and block charging in those cases, but now it seems to block even good power feeds.Ī question I have for Motorola is could the untested software tampering by VZW cause the phone to accept a bad charge by mistake and thus damage the phone? The thing with not being able to charge by USB cable seems to be also related to Motorola software being tweaked by VZW. if there is a better explanation I would love to hear it.

This sure sounds like either protectionism or paranoia. He advised this is common practice for Verizon to do with Motorola phone software (not sure why) for the first 1 or 2 quarters the phone is on the market. He informed me of the following.Ĭertain features in the phone that are supposed to be available (ie features designed and created by Motorola - like USB connectivity) are deliberately "flash blocked" (?) by Verizon. I ran into a Verizon employee the other day and started a conversation about the VU204 problems. I own a VU204 and like many other posters here I cannot offload my pictures or even charge the phone from my computer via a USB cable.

Until then, thanks for the help.It is a Verizon issue. Maybe after this phone's been out a while, and people have figured it out, there might be an easy solution available. There probably is a way around it, if I understood some of what others have been through with other phones, and felt like being a pioneer, but I don't think it's worth the hassle to get some photos from a phone-cam. Well, Tony's tried, and it appears to be a Verizon issue. › See More: Connecting VU204 via USB to computer I can't seem to find anything in any FAQ or Motorola help.

Is there really no way I can download photos to my computer from my phone, given that I have a mini USB-USB cable and the driver? What use is the driver if I can't transfer anything? I see on the Motorola site that there's also some software that is designed to act as some kind of interface between a phone and a computer, but that doesn't list the VU204 as a phone it works with.

I was hoping that my computer would recognize the phone as an external drive, or I'd have access to some software that would allow me to do things such as transfer photos from the phone to the computer.
